Well, its official. I am nuts. A few weeks ago when J was at work, I swapped the kiddos rooms. He was not surprised...I think he has come to expect the constant rearranging after almost 8 years together. P's furniture just fit better in the other room, and vice versa. Do you all remember this dresser?:
Well, after I painted it in army green, I realized that it was the exact length as a standard twin mattress. And then the wheels started turning. I figured out a cheap and fun way to add a little character and fun to his space while not losing essential storage. J and I hit the local Home Depot and bought some wood, L brackets, and wood screws (all for under $28.00) and built Maddux his own secret hiding spot. Check it out:
You may not be able to tell, but it is a built out that is extended behind the dresser. So it provides storage (from the dresser) a bed (with the mattress on top) and a great place to hide and freak out the grandparents :). He loves. We love it. Enough said. And for those parents out there who are worried about him falling out...we of course have a "tuck under the mattress mesh blocker" that you can find at any children supply store (we got ours at Baby R Us) that is almost the length of the dresser. We took it off for the photos. He hasn't fallen out yet! Phew.
We topped off his room with some old vintage record covers (easiest art project yet) that we found at a Goodwill for $1.99 each. Not too shabby. So here are some more room views:
The black shelf was a church garage sale find for $5 with my mom. I painted it black and used the mail-sorter for Maddux' match-box cars.
Hope you enjoy! We had a blast and the little guy loves it. All that counts, right?
Best wishes,
Lindsay "Ladybird" & Jeremiah "Fellow"!
